Paulo Assuncao joins Sao Paulo

Brazilian midfielder Paulo Assuncao has agreed to join Sao Paulo after his contract with Atletico Madrid was terminated.

The 32-year-old, who spent four seasons in Spain, reached an agreement with Atletico on Friday to release him from the final year of his contract.

He told the club's official website: "I've experienced the best moments of my career at Atletico, winning three European titles.

"I'll always remember my time at Atletico. I hope they do very well this season and achieve their objectives. I'm really excited about returning to Brazil and hope I can continue showing what I can do."

Assuncao has signed a one-year contract at Sao Paulo.
