Mikel San Jose signs new Athletic Bilbao deal

Mikel San Jose has signed a new long-term contract with Athletic Bilbao.

The 25-year-old, who joined Liverpool as a teenager before returning to San Mames, was a key performer for Bilbao last season as the Basque outfit finished fourth in La Liga.

A number of European clubs were believed to be monitoring developments with the versatile midfielder, but a new deal until 2018 has been agreed.

It is understood that San Jose's release clause now stands at £30m.
