Paul Lambert delighted with "first-class" Aston Villa after West Ham United draw

Paul Lambert salutes the "first-class" performance of his Aston Villa side which secured them a "massive point" from their Premier League match with West Ham.

Paul Lambert has hailed the "first-class" performance of his Aston Villa side which secured them a "massive point" against West Ham United on Saturday.

The Villans ended a run of six successive Premier League defeats by holding out for a 0-0 draw at Upton Park, and Lambert was delighted with their rearguard action against one of the division's form sides.

"I thought we were excellent, resolute, everything you need to get anything from here," he told reporters.

"West Ham have been on a rich vein of form. They have been playing really well, so to come here and get something is a big result for us.

"I thought we were first class. It was a massive point for us. I thought in the second half we looked comfortable up until the last five minutes or so when they put their big lads on. [Brad] Guzan has made a world-class save towards the end."

The point was Villa's first since September and kept them 16th in the Premier League table.
