Aston Villa drawn away to Luton Town in renamed League Cup

Championship side Aston Villa are drawn away to League Two outfit Luton Town in the first round of the EFL Cup, previously known as the League Cup.

Championship side Aston Villa have been drawn away to Luton Town in the first round of the EFL Cup.

The West Midlands team, relegated from the Premier League in 20th place last season, will take on the League Two outfit during the week commencing August 8.

Newcastle United and Norwich City will enter the competition, previously known as the League Cup, in the second round after finishing higher than Villa in 2015-16.

The tournament has been renamed as part of the English Football League's rebranding, announced last November and which came into use at the end of last season.
