Wenger 'hopeful' of keeping Nasri

Arsene Wenger has said he is hoping to hang on to Samir Nasri following Cesc Fabregas's departure for Spain.

The 24-year-old has refused an offer from Wenger to extend his current contract as he considers a move to Man City, where he could earn double his London wage.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Wenger told reporters: "Ideally I want Samir Nasri to stay, but as much as we were in a strong position on the contract side with Cesc, the situation is a bit different, but hopefully we can sort the situation out."

Wenger refused to guess his chances of keeping Nasri, conceding: "It's very difficult to answer that question in an honest way."

Nasri resumed training this morning as the side prepares for its Champions League game with Udinese tomorrow.
