Polish legend wants Wojciech Szczesny Arsenal exit

Poland legend Jan Tomaszewski urges Arsene Wenger to either sell Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny or end his exile by restoring him to the first XI.

Legendary Poland goalkeeper Jan Tomaszewski has told Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to sell under-fire Wojciech Szczesny if he continues to bench him.

The Pole was dropped for the Gunners' last two games as punishment for being caught smoking in the showers at St Mary's in their New Year's Day defeat at Southampton.

Szczesny, who was reportedly fined £20,000 for the breach, is said to be frustrated over losing his first-team place, but Tomaszewski says that Wenger has ulterior motives for the omission.

"I think the smoking in the showers incident was only an excuse to fine Wojciech," he told reporters. "Wenger made sure that someone was a scapegoat.

"He is losing in the race for the Champions League, and if they miss out on the competition, that would be a huge loss for the club.

"Of course, Szczesny was at fault for both goals against Southampton, but that's not the most important thing in this situation. If Wojciech is dropped, then he should be loaned out, somewhere where he will play regularly."

The Frenchman has recently admitted that he was unsure if he would continue to play David Ospina ahead of the 24-year-old.
