Arsene Wenger 'slams indefensible Premier League loan system'

Wenger 'slams indefensible loan system'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called upon the Premier League to alter the current loan system, which the Frenchman has branded indefensible.

His Gunners side will face Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, with the likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Gareth Barry and Romelu Lukaku – all loanees – in contention to start for the Toffees.

However, Wenger has suggested that loan players should feature against their parent clubs, if the system is to continue fairly.

He is quoted by The People as saying: "It is just a protection of the clubs who loan the players out to hurt their opponents, when they have no risk at all.

"For a while you could decide when you loaned a player out whether he could play against you or not and I always decided 'yes, he can play against us'.

"The system is the same for Chelsea, Arsenal and everybody else but the only question is 'is the system right or not?' It is open for debate."

Everton will close to within a point of Arsenal in the Premier League table, should they beat the Gunners on Sunday.
