Arsene Wenger hails Petr Cech after recording 200th Premier League clean sheet

Arsene Wenger is delighted with Petr Cech's "remarkable" achievement of recording his 200th Premier League clean sheet as Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners over Watford.

Arsene Wenger has described Petr Cech as "remarkable" after the Arsenal goalkeeper recorded his 200th career clean sheet in the Premier League.

The former Chelsea custodian had been stuck on 199 since the Gunners' 1-0 win over Newcastle United on December 16.

However, Cech finally sealed his double century as he shut out Watford in Sunday's 3-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

The Czech icon also saved his first penalty in 16 attempts as an Arsenal player, keeping out Troy Deeney's spot kick.

Cech, who has the most clean sheets in the Premier League era, is now 31 ahead of second-placed David James, and Wenger was quick to pay tribute to his player.

"What Petr Cech has done - 200 clean sheets - that's remarkable and on top of that he saved a penalty today," the Frenchman is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying. "That, I've just seen it again, was a very generous one.

"He had to wait a while to save a penalty first of all. It's quite fortunate that it's against Deeney! On top of that he got the clean sheet.

"His situation in two weeks has shown what football is. In one week he's gone from hell to heaven. That's how can life can be. I like both situations because in the first situation he's shown a lot of humility and responsibility.

"A record like that witnesses a lot of motivation and a huge level of intelligence, as you don't last for such a long time in the game if you're not intelligent."

The nearest active goalkeeper to Cech currently playing in the top flight is Joe Hart, who has 122 clean sheets to his name.
