Robert Pires backs Carlo Ancelotti to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal boss

Robert Pires believes that Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti and Thierry Henry would be good candidates to replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager.

Former Arsenal player Robert Pires has expressed his belief that Carlo Ancelotti would be a perfect fit at the Emirates once Arsene Wenger leaves his position as manager.

The Frenchman's future has been a talking point in recent seasons, but he attempted to dispel the rumours by signing a new contract last summer.

Ancelotti is currently in charge of Real Madrid and in his first season in charge at the Bernabeu, the Italian guided the team to Copa del Rey glory and their 10th European trophy by winning the Champions League.

While Pires believes that Ancelotti would be a good replacement, the 41-year-old also believes that recently-retired Arsenal legend Thierry Henry could be a candidate.

In an interview with Goal.com, Pires said: "Who is the perfect replacement? Thierry Henry? He understands football and Arsenal. I don't know, but I like Carlo Ancelotti. But that's my opinion, it doesn't mean that Arsenal need Ancelotti at this time."

Wenger took over as Arsenal manager back in 1996.
