Garry Monk hits back at Arsene Wenger's criticism of Swansea City

Garry Monk hits back at Arsene Wenger for claiming that his Swansea City team 'just defended' against Arsenal.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has hit back at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for criticising how his team set up in last night's Premier League match at the Emirates.

The Swans frustrated the Gunners and sealed a 1-0 win thanks to an 86th-minute winner from Bafetimbi Gomis.

After the final whistle, Wenger accused Swansea of 'just defending', but Monk has praised his players and believes that he got the tactics right.

"If we didn't play, I'm not sure how we got the three points," BBC Sport quotes Monk as saying. "Three points - that's the pleasing bit, whether we deserved it or not.

"We could have come here and gone toe-to-toe but, with the individual quality Arsenal have, they could have hurt us, so we set up very well with a gameplan."

Swansea, who were tipped to be fighting relegation this season, are eighth in the table, two points outside of the top six.
