Arsenal injury update: Noni Madueke set to 'undergo scan' to determine extent of knee issues

Madueke set to 'undergo scan' to determine extent of knee injury

Arsenal winger Noni Madueke could be set for a spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

Madueke, who moved to Arsenal in the summer transfer window from Chelsea for £52m, was forced off at half-time in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League clash on Sunday.

A late goal from Gabriel Martinelli salvaged a point for the Gunners, who now trail league leaders Liverpool by five points after five games.

It was initially feared that Madueke may have ruptured his ACL, but journalist Ben Jacobs has allayed the fears by confirming that it is not the case.

Madueke set for a spell on the sidelines

The 23-year-old has started in four of the five Premier League games for the Gunners, but he has yet to register a goal or an assist.

It was initially thought that Mikel Arteta had taken him off due to tactical reasons, but the Arsenal boss later confirmed that the winger was not fit enough to continue.

Jacobs claimed on X that while Madueke did not sustain an ACL injury, he could still be out for a while with the knee injury.

According to a report from The Sun, the England international is set to undergo scans to determine the extent of the injury, and the timeline for his return remains unclear.

Arteta missing several key players

Arsenal arguably have one of the strongest squads in the league, with sufficient depth and quality to cope with Madueke's absence.

Bukayo Saka returned to action against Man City after missing three games with a hamstring injury. Additionally, Arteta has options such as Martinelli, Eberechi Eze, Max Dowman, and Leandro Trossard at his disposal, which should comfort the Arsenal fan base.

At the same time, the Gunners are still without Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus due to injuries, while skipper Martin Odegaard has been suffering from a persistent shoulder issue

The Gunners fans will hope that the injury is not serious and that Madueke could only be missing for a few games.

Arsenal visit Port Vale for their EFL Cup third-round tie on Wednesday, followed by a trip to Newcastle United, and Madueke is almost sure to miss those games.
