Olivier Giroud backs Arsene Wenger to lead Arsenal resurgence

Giroud backs Wenger for Arsenal resurgence

Olivier Giroud is adamant that under-fire Arsene Wenger remains the right man to lead Arsenal following the 4-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Frenchman's future at the Emirates Stadium was plunged into doubt last week following the 3-2 defeat at Stoke City, where the 65-year-old was subjected to verbal assaults from furious Arsenal fans afterwards.

Giroud helped ease some of the pressure on his compatriot by scoring twice in beating Newcastle at home, with Wenger's name echoing around the stadium late on in support of the long-serving manager.

"I didn't want to talk lots about the situation – always the same when you lose a game the first man to face the criticism is always the boss," Giroud told Sky Sports News. "It's part of our job and we have to deal with that but we our united and always together.

"Keep the faith keep working hard and there is no thinking about changing the boss – he is the man to manage this situation.

"It's nice to hear the supporters supporting the boss and obviously it's a fantastic night for us we are pleased – we have one week of rest and we will prepare now for a big game at Anfield."

Santi Cazorla was also on target twice in a victory that saw Arsenal move to within two points of the top four in the Premier League table.
