Cech: 'I have not broken clean sheet record'

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has insisted that he has not beaten David James's Premier League clean sheet record.

It had been suggested that the 33-year-old had overtaken the former England stopper by keeping his 171st clean sheet in the top flight in the 2-0 win against Stoke City on Saturday.

However, Cech has stated that while he has made 171 shutouts, he has not reached James's milestone just yet.

"Good morning everybody, I took time to have a look into my number of clean sheets as there is so many different numbers regarding that," he posted on Twitter.

"You have to play full 90 minutes to count a Premier League clean sheet, that's the rule, so only the games gk starts and finishes.

"I have 171 Premier League clean sheets in total but can't count four because I didn't play full 90 minutes. So the correct number is 167!"

Cech has made 338 Premier League appearances for Arsenal and Chelsea since 2004.
