Arsene Wenger could reportedly turn to Chuba Akpom to lead the line for Arsenal in their Premier League opener against Liverpool next month.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Hull City in the Championship and has never previously started a top-flight game.
Wenger has already confirmed that he will give Olivier Giroud an extended break to recover from his Euro 2016 exertions and, according to the Evening Standard, Akpom is now in contention to start the season up front.
It is claimed that the England Under-21s international has been training with the first team since the start of pre-season and will be given a chance to impress in each of Arsenal's summer friendlies ahead of the new campaign.
Akpom managed only seven goals in 41 appearances for Hull last season, while his Premier League experience adds up to just 28 minutes.
