Report: Sabella resigns from Argentina post

Alejandro Sabella has resigned from his position as manager of Argentina, according to widespread reports.

The 59-year-old guided the South Americans to the World Cup final where they were beaten in extra time by Germany, and his current contract expires in September.

It is being reported that he has told Argentine Football Association president Julio Grondona that he will step down as the national team's head coach.

Sabella took charge of Argentina in August 2011 and led the country to first place in the World Cup qualifiers.

Gerardo Martino and Jose Pekerman are being touted among the favourites to replace him.
