Former Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill has reportedly agreed to join Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.
The 29-year-old was attracting interest from a number of top-flight clubs this summer, supposedly holding talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Brownhill was a key reason behind Burnley's promotion to the Premier League last season, providing plenty of magical moments from midfield.
The Englishman scored a staggering 18 goals and bagged six assists across 42 Championship matches despite operating from the engine room.
Ex-Bristol City man Brownhill has won promotion from the Championship twice at Turf Moor, including during the title-winning campaign of 2022-23 under Vincent Kompany.
Ex-Burnley star agrees big-money deal with Saudi side?
According to Sky Sports News, Burnley hero Brownhill is set for a lucrative and interesting switch to the Middle East in the coming days.
The report claims that the 29-year-old has agreed to link up with Saudi Pro League outfit Al Shabab for the 2025-26 campaign.
It is believed that Brownhill will earn over £100,000 per week with his new employers, blowing his Burnley salary out of the water.
The midfielder supposedly flew to Saudi Arabia earlier this week in order to complete a medical, scheduled for Friday (September 5).
It is understood that Brownhill rejected the offer of a fresh contract over the summer from Burnley, who were keen to retain a key player from their promotion-winning campaign.
Brownhill decisions begin to make sense
A background hum of the summer transfer window, Brownhill has been rejecting the advances of Premier League and Championship clubs with a potent consistency.
It is clear to see why the midfielder snubbed approaches from English outfits, with the player set for a life-altering move to the Middle East.
With players not having to pay income tax on their salaries in Saudi Arabia, Brownhill would have to earn around £200,000 per week in England to match Al Shabab's contract offer.
