Heracles climb to second in Eredivisie after seeing off ADO Den Haag

ADO Den Haag have succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of high-flying Heracles in their Eredivisie clash at the Kyocera Stadium.

The hosts had a shout for a penalty when Ruben Schaken was felled in the box, but the referee waved away the appeals.

John Stegeman's charges went on to break the deadlock in the 38th minute through Wout Weghorst, who thumped a neat header into the net to put the visitors into the lead.

Oussama Tannane then showed skill in the second half when he wrong-footed two opposition defenders on route to goal, but his subsequent shot sailed wide.

At the other end, Bram Castro was responsible for a number of smart saves to keep Heracles in front and ultimately clinch all three points.

The result means that Heracles remain second in the Eredivisie table on 12 points, just one behind leaders Ajax, while Den Haag remain 12th.
