Arsene Wenger 'to replace Gennaro Gattuso as AC Milan manager'

Arsene Wenger 'closing in on AC Milan job'

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly in line to replace Gennaro Gattuso as the new manager of AC Milan.

Wenger has been without a club since leaving Arsenal at the end of last season, 22 years after taking over the Gunners in 1996.

The Frenchman has repeatedly insisted that he will not retire from management, and France Football claims that he is now on the verge of returning to the game with Milan.

Milan won just one of their opening five games of the Serie A season, but have since recovered to win five of their next six and climb up to fourth in the table.

However, Gattuso's job is still thought to be under threat ahead of Sunday's meeting with leaders and seven-time defending champions Juventus.

Milan have recently appointed former Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, who was rumoured to be instrumental in the decision to sack Wenger during the summer.

The report claims that Wenger will also work closely with Milan's sporting director Leonardo.
