James Whitaker: 'England selectors are 100% behind Alastair Cook'

James Whitaker insists that Alastair Cook has the selection panel's full support ahead of the series with India.

National selector James Whitaker has insisted that the England and Wales Cricket Board's panel will continue to support Alastair Cook despite his recent troubles.

Cook's disappointing form with the bat has been in the limelight recently, while the series defeat has seen his leadership skills questioned, but Whitaker claims that the England captain still has the full support of the selectors.

"As selectors we back him 100% and we trust he will get England over the line very shortly," Whitaker told reporters. "He is very resilient, full of resolve and is determined to turn it round.

"He is building an environment that he believes can be strong and positive for English cricket and we trust him to do that."

It was confirmed on Wednesday that Ben Stokes had been recalled to the Test squad for the start of the series against India.
