West Indies control opening session

The West Indies have controlled the opening session of the Third test against England at Edgbaston this afternoon.

This encounter finally got underway on day three following two days of no play because of the wet conditions.

England skipper Andrew Strauss won the toss and elected to put the Windies into bat.

Despite the favourable bowling conditions, West Indies opener Keiron Powell was the only batsman to fall for 24 runs. The 22-year-old edged a delivery from Tim Bresnan into the slips, where Graeme Swann was waiting to take the catch.

Adrian Barath (40) and Assad Fudadin (15) will resume at the crease after lunch with the Windies 85-1.
