Vaughan: 'Gillespie right for England'

Michael Vaughan believes that Jason Gillespie is the best candidate for the vacant England coach job.

New director of cricket Andrew Strauss confirmed on Tuesday that the 40-year-old is one of the contenders to take charge of the national side after impressing during his spell with Yorkshire.

Gillespie led Yorkshire to last season's County Championship title, and former England captain Vaughan says that he is the type of coach that the ECB should be looking at.

"I think he's the stand-out candidate," Vaughan told BBC Sport. "Gillespie's in our system, he's gone through our coaching badges, he's been at Yorkshire for a few years and he's done tremendously.

"He plays the right style of cricket and I think he will be a breath of fresh air.

"The game's become too serious, too dramatic. It's a game of cricket and we need someone with a little bit of a sense of reality and Jason Gillespie would bring that."

England are looking for a new coach after sacking Peter Moores at the weekend.
