Andrew Strauss: 'Jason Gillespie a candidate for coaching role'

Former Australian bowler Jason Gillespie is a contender to be the new coach of England, Andrew Strauss confirms.

Andrew Strauss has confirmed that Jason Gillespie is one of the contenders to become the new coach of the England cricket team.

Former Australian bowler Gillespie has recently been strongly linked with the post, which was made vacant at the weekend following the decision to sack Peter Moores.

When asked by Sky Sports News if the current Yorkshire coach was in the running for the role, new director of England cricket Strauss replied: "He's one of the candidates, absolutely."

Last year, Gillespie guided Yorkshire to a first County Championship title since 2001.
