Pietersen was dropped from the team after sending texts to South African players, mocking his England teammates.
The batsman was welcomed back into the squad earlier this month and Swann thinks a lot depended on a resolution of the issue.
"More than anything, it's a good thing it is done and dusted," Swann said in The Independent. "A line has been drawn under it and the actual cricket can go back to doing the talking.
"I am sure it can get back to how it was. I think a lot depended on Kevin. He seems in a place where he is now happy to play again, he's committed himself to the team and that's a good thing."
England's tour of India begins on November 15 in Ahmedabad.
