Kevin Pietersen "overwhelmed" by support following England axe

Kevin Pietersen says that he is "overwhelmed" by the support after the ECB confirmed yesterday that the batsman's time with England has come to an end.

Kevin Pietersen has expressed his gratitude after receiving messages of support from fans following his axe from the England squad.

The England and Wales Cricket Board announced yesterday that the batsman has been dropped from the upcoming Caribbean tour and the ICC World Twenty20.

Following the announcement, Pietersen has taken to Instagram to post a photo of his final England appearance, along with the message: "So sad that this will now be the last time I leave a field in an England shirt... Incredibly overwhelmed by the support overnight! Thank you so much.. #626 #185 #7(my caps). I love England and I honestly hope they have every success in the future.."

Pietersen, who began his England career in November 2004, racked up the second-highest run total from his first 25 Tests.
