Monty Panesar claims that a poor bowling performance in the first innings was to blame for the defeat to Pakistan

Monty Panesar has claimed that he was at fault for England's second Test defeat against Pakistan.

Despite taking seven wickets in the match, Panesar believes that his first-innings bowling performance was below par.

The Sussex spinner said: "Maybe I let the team down in the first innings, where I didn't take wickets at a quick enough rate.

"I was pleased with my performance in the second innings but Graeme Swann kind of carried me in the first."

Panesar is expected to keep his place in the team for the third Test in Dubai.
