Martin Guptill happy with "special" century at Lord's

Guptill delighted with century at Lord's

Martin Guptill has admitted that it was "special" to lead New Zealand to a victory with an unbeaten century at Lord's on Friday.

The opening batsman had a difficult challenge ahead of him after two wickets fell in the opening over of New Zealand's innings but Guptill was left to celebrate with his teammates after contributing 103 runs to chase down 228.

"Yes, there were a few nerves there, but I was just happy to be there at the end and to get a win for the country," said the 26-year-old.

"It was very special. Getting a hundred for your country is always special, no matter where it is, but especially at Lord's."

New Zealand take a 1-0 series lead into the second match at the AGEAS Bowl on Sunday.
