Alastair Cook: 'Alex Hales is still in picture'

England captain Alastair Cook is adamant that Alex Hales could still play for his side in their one-day international series against Sri Lanka.

England captain Alastair Cook has insisted that Alex Hales could still force his way into the one-day side for the Three Lions' series against Sri Lanka.

Hales was left out of the team for Cook's side's first warm-up match against Sri Lanka A in favour of Moeen Ali, who took his chance as opener as he scored a blistering half-century to fire England to a comfortable victory.

However, Cook is adamant that nothing has been decided yet, despite Ali's impressive performance with the bat as well as the ball as he took 3-29.

He told reporters: "It was incredibly hard to pick a side even for this warm-up game. We just wanted another bowler in top six, and Moeen gives us that option.

"It's a real tough call on Alex, but we're nowhere near making our final decision."

England play Sri Lanka in the first one-day international of the series on November 26.
