Ian Bell: 'Players must take responsibility'

England batsman Ian Bell insists that the players have to take responsibility for their own performances despite the arrival of Peter Moores.

England batsman Ian Bell has admitted that the onus is just as much on the players as it is on new coach Peter Moores to turn the fortunes of the team around.

The Three Lions have struggled in recent months after losing the Ashes in a 5-0 whitewash and they also failed to make it out of the group stages in the T20 World Cup.

Following the appointment of Moores, Bell is adamant that the players have to stand up and be counted to get Alastair Cook's side back to top form.

"The players have to stand up and score runs and take wickets no matter who's coaching," Bell told reporters. "That's the important thing.

"Giving responsibility to the players is going to be important. It's about the players standing up and winning games for England.

"In any sport the management can only do so much. They can get you ready but they can't do anything once you've crossed the line and responsibility comes down to the players."

England take on Sri Lanka later this month.
