MS Dhoni congratulates England on becoming the number one Test team in the world and targets an improvement from India.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has admitted that his side must improve if they are to become the number one Test team in the world again.

England took that position from India yesterday after defeating the tourists by an innings and 242 runs at Edgbaston, putting the hosts into a 3-0 lead in a four-Test series.

The defeat marks the first loss as Test captain for Dhoni, who now believes that there is work to be done to reverse his team's fortunes.

"Congratulations to England," Dhoni told Sky Sports News. "We've not been up to the mark in this series and the margin of defeats have been getting bigger and bigger.

"There are areas we need to improve in the side but overall to play really good cricket you have to be consistent and that's what England have done."

Dhoni, 30, hit an unbeaten 74 during India's defeat.
