Bairstow not worried about replacing Prior

Jonny Bairstow has insisted that he is capable of replacing Matt Prior in the England team for the first Ashes Test against Australia.

The Yorkshire player has been deployed as a wicketkeeper during England's warm-up match against a Cricket Australia Invitational XI in Sydney, in the absence of the injured Prior.

Bairstow has said that he has no fears over taking the gloves for the opening Test in Brisbane, should Prior fail to recover from his calf injury in time.

"The preparation that I have been working with Bruce on and the technical side of things, it is every day process, so if that opportunity does come along I don't see any reason why I can't take it," Bairstow told Sky Sports News.

"But at the end of the day we are all hoping that Matt is going to be fit. The medical team are keeping things close to their chests but Matt seems fine and is as chirpy as ever."

The Ashes series begins on November 21.
