Australia's Mitchell Johnson backs Mitchell Starc to dominate Test cricket

Johnson backs Starc for Test domination

Mitchell Johnson has claimed that it is only a matter of time before his Australia teammate Mitchell Starc begins dominating Test cricket with the ball.

The left-arm seamer has moved up to first in the one-day international bowling rankings following Australia's World Cup final victory over New Zealand in Melbourne on Sunday.

Starc impressed by taking 22 wickets overall in the tournament, one of which involved the dismissal of Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum for a duck.

"I don't think it's far away, I just think he needs to play consistent Test-match cricket, get out there and do it," espncricinfo.com quotes Johnson as saying. "I know what it was like when I first started, you're trying to find your rhythm and trying to find your place.

"I think this has definitely given him a lot of confidence. He's really stood up. He was criticised through that Test series last year and he's really stood up. I'm really proud of him."

Starc, who won the Player of the Tournament award at the World Cup, is number 31 in the Test bowling rankings.
