Mitchell Johnson named man of the series

Mitchell Johnson wins the Compton-Miller medal for man of the series in The Ashes.

Mitchell Johnson has been named man of the series after taking 37 wickets at an average of 14 during The Ashes.

Australia completed a 5-0 whitewash over England, repeating the scoreline of the 2006-07 series.

The 32-year-old fast bowler terrorised the tourists' batting order from the first Test in Brisbane until the final victory in Sydney, narrowly beating Brad Haddin to the Compton-Miller medal.

"It's something I will cherish for the rest of my life," he told Channel 9. "We didn't expect to win 5-0 but after the England series, the lads knew they were on track and we proved it here.

"The way we started the series was the key - our plan was to go hard at England, particularly the tail, and it worked out for us.

"Brad Haddin has come into the team and, for what he has done in this series, he deserves to be up here with me."

Ryan Harris finished the Sydney Test with figures of 8-61 to claim the man-of-the-match award.
