Sean McGoldrick eager to begin Commonwealth Games title defence

McGoldrick eager to begin title defence

Team Wales's Sean McGoldrick has revealed that he is relishing getting the defence of his Commonwealth Games title underway.

The 22-year-old initially won the silver medal in the Delhi Games four years ago, but was then awarded the gold after Sri Lanka's Manju Wanniarachchi failed a drugs test.

McGoldrick is now looking forward to getting his campaign in Glasgow underway after finding out that he will take on Australia's Jackson Woods in his first-round clash in the men's bantam 56kg.

He told reporters: "Once the draw is done it means we get down to business. It's easy to get distracted looking at the different opponents, I take it one bout at a time so I will be concentrating all my energy on preparing to face Jackson Woods who is a good experienced Australian fighter."

McGoldrick faces Woods on Monday.
