Joe Cordina pleased with 'big win'

Wales boxer Joe Cordina believes that he has sent out a statement by beating Team England's Pat McCormack in his opening bout of the Commonwealth Games.

Joe Cordina has revealed his delight after overcoming Team England's Pat McCormack in his opening bout of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Wales boxer, who will face David Gauthier in the next round, also claimed that the third round proved decisive in his clash with McCormack.

"I thought I won the first round quite comfortably, second round it was a lot closer and I thought that maybe he could have taken it, but the cleaner shots from myself in the last round I thought won the bout," he told reporters immediately after the fight.

"That was a gold medal bout for me... It was a big fight."

Cordina vs. Gauthier is scheduled for tomorrow.
