Interview: New Zealand's Chad Milnes

Sports Mole speaks to New Zealand's Chad Milnes following his victory over Sura Chakma in his first fight of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand boxer Chad Milnes booked his spot in the next round of the Commonwealth Games with victory over Bangladesh's Sura Chakma on Saturday afternoon.

Milnes will now fight Lazarus Shaningwa of Namibia in the next round of the men's light category, with that bout due to take place tomorrow.

Seconds after his success, Sports Mole grabbed a quick chat with the 22-year-old at ringside.

Congratulations Chad! How did you feel in there today?

"I am glad I got my first one out of the way and hopefully I will feel a lot better for the next one."

You gave away some height to your opponent, but were you always confident that you had the ability to dominate inside?

"Yeah, I always give away height. I am short for the weight, but I am accustomed to it. It is nothing new to me."

What about the headguard rule? Are you a fan of the omission for the Games?

"I had a few headbutts in there, but I felt free and could move my head around. I have got a big head you see so it is better that the target is a little bit smaller with the lack of headgear."

Finally Chad, are you going for gold?

"Of course!"
