Tony Bellew to fight for world title at Goodison Park

Tony Bellew will challenge for the WBC cruiserweight world title in a fight against Ilunga Makabu at the home of his beloved Everton on May 29.

Tony Bellew has secured a fight for the vacant WBC cruiserweight world title that will take place at the home of his beloved Everton next month.

The Liverpudlian, who claims that he is "ready to conquer the world", will face Congolese boxer Ilunga Makabu at Goodison Park on Sunday, May 29.

"I'm over the moon to get this opportunity," Bellew told reporters.

"This is the defining fight and night of my career. The experience has been passed, I've done it all now, British, Commonwealth, European - beaten fringe contenders, former world champions - I'm ready to conquer the world."

It will be Bellew's third world-title attempt after previous defeats at light-heavyweight against Nathan Cleverly in 2011 and Adonis Stevenson in 2013.

The 33-year-old's professional record is 26-2-1 with 16 knockouts, while Makabu has lost one of his 20 professional fights with 18 of his 19 wins coming by way of knockout.
