Wellington Romero of the Dominican Republic has breezed past Colombia's Eduar Marriaga Campo in the Olympic lightweight class.

The Dominican seized the initiative from the opening bell and had worked his way into a 3-0 lead by the end of the first round.

He continued to dominate the contest as he thoroughly out-boxed the South American, who had no answer to his speed and guile.

In the end, Romero cantered to a 17-8 victory.
