Teymur Mammadov defends performance in quarter-final victory

Mammadov defends quarter-final win

Teymur Mammadov has insisted that he deserved his victory over Peter Mullenberg in the light-heavyweight quarter-finals at the European Games.

Mullenberg voiced his frustration after the Azerbaijani fighter was awarded a 3-0 victory by all three judges in Baku, but Mammadov believes that he did enough to secure a semi-final clash against Russia's Pavel Silyagin.

"My opponent was tough enough," he told reporters. "He used pressure attacks on me, but I dominated him over three rounds.

"My tactics were right, so I won."

Team GB boxer Joshua Buatsi admitted that he felt he had beaten Mammadov when the two met in their last-32 clash last week.
