Azerbaijan's Abdulkadir Abdullayev: 'Paul Omba Biongolo refused to shake my hand'

Azerbaijan's Abdulkadir Abdullayev discloses that France's Paul Omba Biongolo turned down the offer of a handshake following his victory at the European Games.

Azerbaijan's Abdulkadir Abdullayev has revealed that France's Paul Omba Biongolo refused to shake his hand following his victory in the quarter-finals of the men's heavyweight boxing at the European Games.

The 26-year-old won a unanimous points decision to advance to the semi-finals of the competition, but after the fight the Frenchman refused to shake the hand of Abdullayev, leading to a disagreement between the two.

He told reporters: "As it's common, I wanted to shake hands but his reaction was like he didn't agree with my win, although I tried several times.

"And as we are all mankind, I tried to shake hands with him once more and his reaction was the same. That's why we had a little misunderstanding."

Abdullayev will face Sadem Magomedov of the Russian Federation in the semi-finals on Friday.
