LeBron James helps Cleveland Cavaliers win NBA championship

Cleveland Cavaliers become the first team to overturn a 3-1 deficit in the NBA finals as they beat Golden State Warriors to clinch the championship for the first time in their history.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have won their first ever NBA championship after defeating the Golden State Warriors 93-89 in Sunday's final game of a best-of-seven finals.

The LeBron James-inspired Cavaliers side also became the first team to overturn a 3-1 deficit in the series of final games as they beat the defending champions, who had won a record 73 games out of 82 in the regular season.

James was named Finals MVP after scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists, while Kyrie Irving scored 26 points for the Cavaliers, including a three-pointer with 52 seconds remaining when the scores were locked at 89-89.

The 2016 NBA Championship is the first major sports championship that a team from Cleveland has won since 1964.
