Irving undergoes surgery on broken kneecap

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving has undergone surgery to repair his fractured kneecap.

The 23-year-old sustained the injury in his side's defeat to the Golden State Warriors in game one of the NBA Finals, having previously struggling with tendonitis in his left knee.

Irving has been ruled out for the rest of the series, but has undergone the operation immediately in the hope of being fully fit for the start of next season as he is expected to take up to four months to recover.

Game two between the sides takes place on Sunday evening at Oracle Arena.
