San Francisco 49ers' Aldon Smith arrested on suspicion of DUI

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to San Jose Police.

The 23-year-old was arrested by police following a single-vehicle clash in the Silver Creek district at 7am Pacific Time.

Smith was booked at Santa Clara County jail and was booked on bail for $5,250 (£3,330) and was later released said Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup.

San Jose police spokeswoman Sgt. Heather Randol told NFL Network: "The initial investigation revealed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol."

The 49ers added in a statement: "The 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Aldon Smith. As we continue to gather information regarding this situation, we will have no further comment."

Jim Harbaugh's side face the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
