Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor confirms retirement

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor confirms that he has retired from the NFL, ending his 12-year career in the league.

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor has announced his retirement from the NFL after 12 seasons in the league.

The 34-year-old spent the entirety of his career with the AFC North outfit where he helped the club win two Super Bowls in the 2005 and 2008 seasons, and reach another in the 2010 campaign.

"Other than having my son, playing for the Steelers has been the best experience in my entire lifetime," Taylor told the club's official website.

"It is rare, in this day of free agency that is super rare to play for one team. For me to have this opportunity says a lot about how they felt about me, what I gave back to the organisation.

"I wasn't cut, I wasn't released. It was just my contract was up and it was time to retire. If you want to have pride, well that is the kind of pride I have, being able to play my contract out."

Taylor recorded 636 tackles, three sacks and 14 interceptions in his career.
