Giants release 20 including Carr, Austin

The New York Giants have released 22 players from their roster, including quarterback David Carr and defensive tackle Marvin Austin.

Carr, a former first overall pick in the 2002 draft, had been Eli Manning's backup for the past two seasons but lost his job to draft pick Ryan Nassib during pre-season.

Defensive tackle Austin struggled to force his way into the Giants' defensive front four due to competition for places after being taken 52nd overall in the 2011 draft.

Tom Coughlin's side also released Eric Herman, Tyler Sash, Ryan Torain, Kyle Bosworth, Matt Broha, Bryant Browning, David Caldwell, Terrence Frederick, Stephen Goodin, Kevin Hardy, Marcus Harris, Charles James, Matt McCants, Adewale Ojomo, Julian Talley, Adrian Tracy and Selvish Capers.

Meanwhile, receiver Ramses Barden, defensive tackle Markus Kuhn and cornerback Will Hill were placed on the reserve list.
