Patrick Mahomes battles through an ankle injury to lead the Kansas City Chiefs into their fifth-straight AFC Championship game with victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Kansas City Chiefs booked their spot in the AFC Championship game after overcoming the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-20 at Arrowhead Stadium, despite nearly losing Patrick Mahomes to injury.

The star quarterback - whose eight-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce opened the scoring - jarred his ankle towards the end of the first quarter and was moving gingerly during the remainder of the half.

However, Mahomes came back out to complete a second touchdown pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the fourth quarter, as the Chiefs made the Conference Championships for the fifth year running.

Whether Mahomes will be ready for a meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals or Buffalo Bills remains to be seen, as the 27-year-old prepares to undergo scans on his damaged ankle before next weekend.

Following the Chiefs' victory, the Philadelphia Eagles - the top seed in the NFC - were in a merciless mood as they comfortably dispatched the New York Giants 37-8 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Jalen Hurts threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter before running for one himself in the second, as Philadelphia prepare to meet either the San Francisco 49ers or the Dallas Cowboys for a place in the Super Bowl.
