Minnesota Vikings end season with a win

Vikings end season with a win

The Minnesota Vikings ended their season with a victory as they beat the Detroit Lions by a single point in their NFL clash.

The Vikings took the lead near the end of the second quarter. Matt Cassel tossed the ball to Cordarelle Patterson, who reversed field and sprinted through a series of tacklers to run in for a 50-yard touchdown.

Minnesota moved down the field seamlessly again as Cassel got them inside the 10-yard line. On first and goal he missed a wide open Jared Allen playing as a tight end, and on third he committed a worse offence as he was picked off by Louis Delmas in the endzone.

After a scoreless first half, the Lions finally got their offense going when Matt Stafford led them downfield before firing the ball to Reggie Bush on a screen pass and he ran into the endzone for a 19-yard touchdown.

Another drive into the redzone yielded points for the Lion but not the seven they wanted as they were kept out of the endzone by resilient defending from the Vikings, but Akers kicked a 25-yard field goal to hand them the lead.

Akers added a 53-yarder to extend their advantage to six points, but Minnesota responded with an excellent drive by Cassel, who moved his team inside the 10-yard line before finding Patterson in the endzone for an eight-yard strike to secure a win for the Vikings.
