Rafael Nadal is expected to make his competitive comeback in an exhibition event in the Middle East next month.

Former World number one Rafael Nadal will reportedly make his competitive comeback in an exhibition event in the Middle East next month.

The 26-year-old has not played since losing in the second round of Wimbledon in June, with a host of knee problems keeping the Spaniard on the sidelines.

He returned to training last week, however, and is now expected to line up alongside Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray for the prestigious event.

"I am making progress and I hope to continue to do so," Nadal told reporters.

He is also expected to take part in the ATP World Tour finals event in Qatar ahead of the Australian Open in January.
