Team GB's Jemma Lowe has secured a place in the women's 200m butterfly semi-finals at the Olympic Games.

The 22-year-old held steady throughout the race, conserving energy for the final stretch to finish in 2:07.64, the third-fastest overall.

Kathleen Hersey of the United States beat her to the finish by almost a clear second, putting her through to the last 16 as the fastest qualifier.

Jiao Liuyang of China was the second-quickest on 2:07.15, keeping highly-rated Hungarian Katinka Hosszu at bay in the third head.

Team GB's Ellen Gandy was disappointing, powering into the lead during her heat, but running out of steam at the final stretch. She fell behind the pack and finished in an overall 17th.

The women's 200m butterfly semi-finals take place at the Aquatics Centre this evening.
