China's swim chief Xu Qi rejects Ye Shiwen doping accusations

China's swim team boss Xu Qi slams accusations that Ye Shiwen is guilty of taking performance enhancers following her gold-medal victory in the 400m individual medley.

China's Olympic swimming boss Xu Qi has hit back at claims that teenage swim star Ye Shiwen is guilty of taking performance enhancers.

The 16-year-old surprised spectators as she stormed to gold in the 400m individual medley, which prompted United States coach John Leonard to claim that the victory was "suspicious".

"Michael Phelps won eight gold medals at the Beijing Games and American swimmer Missy Franklin is also incredible," Qi told Xinhua news agency. "Why can't China have a talented swimmer?"

Ye broke the world record to clinch a time of 4:28.43.
