Tommaso Benvenuti has claimed that he has become more mature after earning a recall to the Italy squad for the World Cup.
The 24-year-old centre was part of the squad at the 2011 tournament, but he recently fell out favour on the international stage and did not make an appearance for Italy last year.
However, Benvenuti found his best form after moving to Bristol earlier this year and he believes that his experiences have made him even better.
"I have matured a lot, both as a player and as a person away from the pitch. I'm no longer considered a young player. I am well into my career and need to confirm my potential. I'm not excused things any more and always have to give my best," he told reporters.
"There were a few injuries and then Perpignan were relegated to the French second division. The coach changed and things didn't go well for me under him, plus I wasn't playing my best. These things happen. But then I was lucky enough to arrive at Bristol and I found a great environment, very professional and I fitted in very quickly."
Italy begin their Pool D campaign against France at Twickenham on Saturday.
